First purchase was a Minelab X-Terra Elite. Been out a couple of times with it mainly to learn how to use the machine. Picked up several coins and would have avoided a lot of junk. I choose to dig nearly every signal, for as I stated, learning how to use the machine. Started metal detecting back in the 90's. Did so on and off for several years until I just got to the point that time became a limiting factor. Between my family and career I simply just had trouble with scheduling time. Now retired and have the time. First, I was surprised by the complexity of an entry level machine now, compared to an advanced machine I had in the 90's. X-Terra Elite I believe will pretty much do everything you would need in what many would, at least would have, called and advanced machine in the 90's. (Except dig the hole, I have not found that function yet! LOL) There is going to be a learning curve, but I can see good things coming with some practice and study of the manual. Please don't be intimated by this, I have played guitar for years. When asked about buying a guitar I always tell people do not buy cheap! The playability of a cheap purchase will ultimately discourage you from learning. I believe this advice also is applicable for a metal detector. The functionality, at first may seem overwhelming, but ultimately will pay off. This machine seems to be worth every penny. Secondly, Modern Metal Detectors will do what they say! I received the order in 4 days. They promised it in 5, yep, under promised and over delivered. I have since order some other equipment from them with same results. Don't know if I will ever move on to a more advanced machine, but if I do it will be purchased from Modern Metal Detectors!
