The JW Fishers SAR-1 submerged metal detector was created primarily for military, police enforcement, and public safety dive teams to find metallic items in conditions with limited vision. The "snareless" SAR-1 features a streamlined design with no external wires or connections, making it the perfect detector for use in potentially entanglement-prone underwater situations.
The SAR-1 is equipped with both visible (10 ultra-bright LEDs) and tactile (vibration) target markers. When the metal detector approaches a metal object, the handle begins to shake and a few LEDs light up. As the bright yellow search coil approaches the target, the vibration accelerates and more red high-intensity LEDs illuminate. The number of illuminated LEDs is useful for estimating the target's size and depth of burial. Small targets may only ignite two or three LEDs, whereas bigger ones will illuminate the entire display.
The SAR-1 metal detector is effective in both fresh and saltwater and can identify a range of targets, including shell casings, pistols, rifles, shotguns, knives, UXO, mines, and any form of the metal-containing explosive device. Large objects such as a car or aluminum boat can be detected up to 6 feet below the surface. This high-performance Pulse Induction metal detector can identify both ferrous and nonferrous metal items while disregarding environmental minerals. As opposed to other types of detectors, this one will not provide misleading readings from salt water, coral, high-iron rocks, or other ground mineralization. As with other JWF detectors, the material between the search coil and the metal target has no effect on the detection range. The detection range is the same while detecting through air, water, silt, sand, mud, or rock.
